May 2022

Earlier this month, our firm gathered with trademark professionals from around the world at the International Trademark Association's annual meeting. It was great to see old colleagues and make new friends. These connections help us continue our learning and growth, and keep us connected to resources around the world that clients sometimes need.

One of the joys of the conference for me is emceeing a raffle of trademark-themed items; I've been doing this raffle for about a decade, and I trust that the joy it brings me is clear on my face in the photos !

I recently attended my first Formula 1 car race. I recorded this brief video at the track with an important trademark lesson:
The Benefits of Trademark Monitoring
Once you have an established and protected brand, there are significant benefits to monitoring for possible infringements and conflicts. Erik discusses what monitoring entails and why it is so valuable here. If you want to discuss monitoring your brand, please email me.
The USPTO recently announced that trademark registration certificates will no longer be automatically printed and mailed on paper. What does that mean for trademark applicants, and how much of the trademark process is now in the cloud? Erik explains it all in this video.
We are committed to giving back to our community here at EMP&A. Earlier this month, our very own Erik and Chelsea had a great time volunteering and cheering to support The Arc of Northern Virginia’s 5k fundraiser - “Going the Distance for People with Disabilities”.
If there are any topics or issues you would like to see covered here, let us know!
