The following is an edited transcript of my video 25 Examples of Great Small Business Brands.
Great and bold brands are everywhere – especially among small businesses.
- A restaurant in Florida called Mango Mango’s, which is a creative name in and of its own, but their slogan is even better. Their slogan is “So good, you have to say it twice.”
- A fishing place in Maine with a great slogan, “Fishing, not wishing.”
- A hair salon called Julius Scissor – what a playful name on the Roman Empire
- A coffee shop at the bottom of a ski mountain called Bumps ‘n Grinds
- A honey brand I came across was called Mind Your Beeswax
- Spun: the name of a yarn and knitting supply store
- Chariots for Hire, a transportation company that offers private limousine and party buses

- A fishing guide named Miss Guided
- A plumbing business called Cold Is On the Right
- A dim sum restaurant called Awe Sum Dim Sum
- An ice cream store called The Inside Scoop
- A game store called Pair O’ Dice—like Paradise, a play on words
- A contractor repair business called On the Level
- A Bar Named Sue. I’m a huge Johnny Cash fan and love “A Boy Named Sue”. A Bar Named Sue is very clever.
- Cheese Louise, a grilled cheese store
- P-A-W-S-H: a glamorous name for a dog spa

- Waste Knot, another sewing and knitting store
- A crane rental company with a great slogan “Hook Up with Us“.
- The Toy Nest, a kids’ library for borrowing and renting toys
- Doodlehopper, a toy store with a fun, wild, playful name.
- A sub shop in New Orleans called Killer PoBoys. Instead of a traditional skull and crossbones, the crossbones in their logo are made out of French baguettes for their logo.

- A coffee shop in New York, not far from Grand Central Station called Ground Central
- A coffee place in an old church building called Beans in the Belfry
- A pizza shop chain called Flippin’ Pizza
Last but not least, my wife and brother-in-law’s business, Clare and Don’s Beach Shack. A fun, playful name because the neighborhood, the original location was in an area called Clarendon—a fun play on that name by making it Clare and Don’s.
