A USPTO application for trademark registration generally takes 7 months at a minimum. There are a variety of hurdles and obstacles to get to the end of the process and thus the process can take much longer. (I once had a client’s take more than 10 years to achieve registration!)

The filing date is generally more important than the registration date. But patience – and skilled navigation – is generally required to navigate the long and winding road successfully. See my visual below for more details about the obstacles along the the path to registration, including searching, filing, meeting the USPTO’s requirements, and clearing publication in the public records.
