Puns and plays on words are great for making memorable and fun brands, and great for improving odds of strong trademark protection since the resulting brand names are more likely to be unique (in the industry) and registrable.

Example: the following witty beer trademark applications that capture the recent trend in “hazy” IPAs. All of the following were filed at the USPTO in connection with beer, and many feature puns, plays on words, rhymes, or otherwise witty names:

  • GLORY HAZE
  • HAZY MISS DAISY
  • HAZY LIKE A FOX
  • HAZY MEMORY
  • HAZY EIGHTS
  • HAZE YOU GUYS
  • HAZEALICIOUS
  • HAZEAS CORPUS
  • MO-HAZE-IC HAPPY IPA
  • HAZY LIGHTNING
  • END OF HAZE
  • PATRICK HAZY
  • HAZY BASTARD
  • HAZED & INFUSED
  • HAZE OF THUNDER
